Labour-run Haringey Council to spend up to £45k on trip to Cannes

Haringey Lib Dems have discovered that Labour-run Haringey Council plan to spend up to £45,000 of taxpayers’ money on a trip to a property conference in Cannes (MIPIM 2017).

The controversial trip to the conference in France will be used to promote the borough to potential developers. The decision to go to the conference was made by a senior officer.

Previous trips to Cannes by the Council have been partly paid for with sponsorship from developers and Spurs football club. In the past, the Labour Leader of Haringey Claire Kober and the Labour Cabinet Member for Housing, Alan Strickland have both attended the conference.

Cllr Gail Engert, Haringey Lib Dem Leader, comments:

“Residents will rightly be very angry that the Labour-run council will yet again be spending thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money sending people to a property conference in Cannes.

"Regeneration should be about improving the lives of ordinary local residents, not enjoying the sunny weather with developers on a luxury yacht in Cannes."
