Labour approve Hornsey Town Hall plans despite local opposition

Haringey Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition is dismayed by the decision of the Labour Cabinet last night to push ahead with plans for the historic Hornsey Town Hall site to be turned into a hotel and homes.

Cllr Gail Engert, Haringey Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, comments:

“I am very disappointed that the Labour Cabinet have decided to push ahead with the proposals for Hornsey Town Hall, despite the views of local people.

“The Lib Dems are worried that the report setting out the plans for the Town Hall leaves many unanswered questions and does not give the local community enough information.

"Cllr Carter and I attended the Cabinet meeting last night and raised our concerns about affordable housing, public access to the building, potential development on the Green and use of historic parts of the Hall for the hotel. Those concerns were not satisfied and the Lib Dems will continue to push Labour to think again and provide a better option for the future of the historic town hall.”
