Calls for a new crossing on a dangerous road due to be made at budget meeting

Local Lib Dem councillors are due to propose a new safe crossing on a dangerous section of road in the borough.

There have been several accidents involving pedestrians on Priory Road including a fatal one in January last year.

The Lib Dems, working with local resident associations, believe a new pedestrian crossing on Priory Road in Muswell Hill would make the road much safer for pedestrians. They have put forward an amendment to the budget for Haringey Council proposing a new safe crossing on the road to be paid for by a reduction in the council budget for consultants.

Councillors Pippa Connor and Gail Engert have repeatedly asked the Labour-run council to make changes to Priory Road and the junctions with Muswell Hill, Alexandra Palace Way and Park Road.

Pippa Connor, Lib Dem councillor for Muswell Hill, comments:

“We really need a new pedestrian crossing on Priory Road to make it safer for pedestrians. That is why the Lib Dems have put forward a budget proposal for a new crossing and we want to work with local residents to ensure the best position for a safe crossing.

"There have been several very serious accidents on Priory Road and we are concerned that not enough is being done to reduce the chances of another serious accident happening. The Liberal Democrats are once again calling on the Labour-run council to make Priory Road safe for pedestrians.”
