Council-run tennis courts in Haringey do not currently have charges for access, making the courts truly free and accessible for all ages and groups right across the borough.
But the Labour-run council want to put an end to this, and are planning on rolling out charges on all of the borough's council tennis courts, with some court charges starting in just a matter of weeks. This is all happening with little public awareness and no engagement.
We are calling on Haringey Labour to rethink this decision and Keep Council Tennis Free for All.
We have to act fast. Please support us by signing our petition:
Haringey Lib Dems believe that access to council courts should remain free for everyone, much like access to parks and playgrounds, and that the introduction of charges will disproportionately affect the poorest in our borough, who are already more likely to have limited outdoor and play space of their own.
With the Coronavirus pandemic having a hugely detrimental impact on many people's mental health, exercise and outdoor activity has never been more important, and tennis is a fantastic socially distanced activity to help improve the health of Haringey residents.
With enough support we can get Haringey to rethink this decision, but we need people like you to help us. So please sign our petition today and share it with your neighbours or anyone who may be affected by this.
